Xerox has been known
over the years for high quality products. The Xerox Workcentre M940 is
a well built machine, with high quality printing output and four print
settings to achieve a favorite choice of quality vs. time and ink, a
1200dpi scanner, and an instant color photocopier.
I'm going to go through each of the points that I think makes a good
printer, photocopier, and scanner. Some of the topics I will cover are
ink consumption and price, speed, quality of printer output, scanner
speed and quality, and printing options, along with the included
software bundle.
Quality - High quality on low settings! Using the draft option I can
decent looking documents and decent pictures. the Xpress option is
quick using less ink than normal with a midlevel of quality between
draft and normal. I use the Xpress option almost all the time for
regular printing purposes. Scanning quality is 1200dpi, which for me
is perfect. Some people look for 2400dpi in scanners, which I have no
use for. I have never used this printer to attempt to print a
high-quality photo, however I have heard from others who own the
machine that it does not do such a great job, so if you're looking for
photo-quality, you may want to look elsewhere.
Printing Options and Software - You are given four options for quality
(Draft, Xpress, Normal, and Best), you can choose whether to print in
Black and White or Color, and you are given Brightness/Contrast
options and Reduce/Enlarge options right on the printer interface. The
software drivers include an Ink meter to see how much ink you've used
(two months I used less than 1/8 of each of the cartridges) and
printer status, along with the ability to change all of the printer
settings and options (that can be controlled on the main panel as
well). The CD also includes a copy of MGI Photosuite, giving you
scanning, printing, and editing options, and text recognition
software.
