BASIC REFILL TONER INSTRUCTIONS
for Brother HL-4040 / HL4050CDN / HL4070CDW / MFC9040 / MFC9440 / MFC9840 Colour Laser Cartridges:
(Please note that refilling is a
practical task requiring some tools & practical skills) Always ask for
our detailed instructions which can be sent by email
These cartridges are not "chipped" but require a mechanical reset to restore
them to indicate "Full" after the refill - much cheaper than chips! Our
instructions show in detail how this is achieved
1. Phillips Head Screwdriver
2. Small Common Screwdriver
3. Needle nose pliers
Required Supplies
1. Brother HL-4040 Toner
Choose the correct colour and gram weight for your cartridge
2. Clean the exterior of the cartridge. Be careful
not to damage the developer roller as it is exposed.
3. Remove the fill plug from the toner cartridge (marked with a red arrow
(right). Dump the remaining toner
and shake out as much as possible from the cartridge. There will probably be a label over the fill
plug. It comes off with a little alcohol and a lint free cloth or cotton swab.

Use the designated weight of toner for the yield of your cartridge Shake
your bottle vigorously before uncapping and
then refill it. It is better to play safe and use under 50% of our bottle
per fill as over-filling these cartridges can cause damage

Remove the side plate by removing two Philips screws - take care with the
gear cogs underneath as they may fall off - hold cartridge end up to stop this - The diameter of the gears is smaller in the
lower version, and cannot
handle the stress of a High Yield load. There are no problems with the new
style higher yield cartriges. (We supply a bottle size for the high yield -4000
pages) So use 50% in the lower yield cartrage |

Set the reset gear and spring as shown opposite is for TN130. The tail of the spring fits into a
notch at the base of the gear.
There are different gears for the TN-130 and TN-135. Each should be set as
shown. The TN130 is below |

PRINTING TEST PAGESPrinter Setting pages:
1. Press the OK button 3 times while the printer is in the
READY state.
2. The printer will show "Print Settings/printing" on the LCD. The
HL-4040/4050 will run 3 pages; the HL-4070 will run 4 pages.
